Cell Webquest - Information on plant and animal cells
Since cells are the basic unit of life, then acquiring a thorough and well-defined grasp of cells and their operation within the organisms is very important.
This cell webquest starts with research and will introduce the student to the organelles and their roles in the cell.
First, some basic research on the organelles. Second, Flash cards are made (simple definitions of a cell's organelles in the student's own words). Third, a PowerPoint exercise comparing the cell parts with the real world (school, home, or a well-known business).
Afterwards, the students should be asked to present their Flash Cards and PowerPoint exercises. Open the three files below ---

The Photosynthesis Skit
Students will group according to the photosynthesis formula and do a skit to act it out, using the following directions or something to that effect based on their own creativity:
Group 1: Make the shape of C, O, 2 with their arms and hands, while saying, "C -- O -- 2!"
Group 2: Making rain signs with fingers and hands, and saying, "It's raining!"
Group 3: The sun group will hold their faces with their hands out and say, "I'm so bright!"
Group 4: Students will alternate straightening up and bending over the first saying, "Chloro" and the second saying, "Phyll"
Group 5: The product, glucose, will stand by the plant and look sweet, and say, "I'm soooo sweet!"
Group 6: The other product, oxygen, will be a group of students that run from the plant yelling, "I'm free!!!!"
The video shows students acting out the skit using some of their ideas ---

The following is a Glog. Students can go to the educational section of Glogster.com and make their own Glog. I ask them to make a personal glog to get acquainted with the applications, then I give them an assignment.
